I'm a DeSantis supporter but he did not do himself any favors this time out by signing the 6 week abortion ban (which I support, but did not think was prudent politically at this point in time; if he signed a 15 week ban he'd be more viable with swing voters). Maybe he needs to find a moderate who will not alienate swing voter women, such as Youngkin or Haley. Not who I'd like to see leading the party in 2028, but if we lose this one, the Left will simply swamp this country with illegal immigrants and find a way to enroll them to vote. This feels like an unforced error for democrats. This kind of thing will just make Kamala seem radical and unserious to independent voters - dampening the enthusiasm drummed up by the news last week. It may get their base of single women and men with ulterior motives to vote and prevent blowouts, but it wont help her get undecideds - it'll repel them. It's just as likely Biden is trying to sabotage Harris to prove they should have stuck with him.

It's there specifically to put a governor on populist changes and to serve as a stabilizing force. This is also why the three branches were built as separate so that such stupid ideas have no teeth without changing the actual constitution itself.
